All the Love for Loveless Cafe

A Must Visit in Nashville, TN

If you’re looking for a classic southern dining experience, look no further than the Loveless Cafe. Since 1951, this iconic restaurant has been serving up timeless Southern favorites, from scrumptious biscuits to savory fried chicken to a perfectly-sweet Chess Pie.

Their signature biscuits will melt away in your mouth. There are arguably the best biscuits in town. (Hey, that would be a good roundup sometimes: Nashville’s best biscuit spots!) They’re made with a blend of buttermilk, shortening, and flour, and are served with a variety of toppings. There's a Sausage or Bacon route, Country Ham, Chicken Biscuit (with grilled or fried chicken), Pulled Pork BBQ, and a Pimento and Fried Green Tomato Biscuit option!

And those are just the breakfast sandwiches. You can also get a breakfast platter with grits, hashbrown casserole, or home-fried potatoes. I'm talking about the Loveless Cafe Fried Chicken and Two Eggs, Country Fried Steak and Two Eggs (served with homemade white gravy, of course), or the Music City Platter with two eggs, your choice of pancakes or French toast, and your choice of bacon or sausage or country ham.

It is the supreme southern breakfast spot. But they also do dinner right.

Their Loveless Cafe Fried Chicken is made with a secret blend of spices and is served with a side of mashed potatoes and gravy. Other popular items include the Country Fried Steak, the Pimento Cheese and Bacon Burger (a char-grilled burger with applewood bacon and buttermilk pimento cheese, served with lettuce and tomato), and the Patty Melt (griddled burger with grilled onions and American cheese on wheat bread).

And the sides. One of the top signs you're at an authentic southern spot is that the sides fill up a huge chunk of the menu, and Loveless totally delivers on this. Mashed Potatoes, Turnip Greens, Southern Creamed Corn, Stone Ground Grits, Fried Green Tomatoes, Fried Okra, Slow Cooked Green Beans . . . that's a few of them.

And real quick, it's also not a real rep of the South unless you've got sweets that make mouth memories you never forget. With so many pie options (Fudge, Chess, Coconut, Steeplechase, and a pie of the month) by the slice or a whole or half to take home—plus a Real Banana Puddin' that'll make you wish that you brought a second pair of socks because it'll knock yours right off—just remember to save room, okay?

Bring the kids, or friends, or come alone. Just come hungry.

Have you been to the Loveless Cafe? What did you think? And if I wrote up some of the best biscuits in town, who needs to be on that list? Let me know!
