Nashville Flea Market

Why Do They Call Them Flea Markets Anyway?

I’ve always wondered at the weird name. A “flea market” doesn’t sound at all like something you’d want to visit, right? But—no matter the origin of the oddness of the name, the Nashville Flea Market specifically is something totally worth the visit.

You’d kind of figure that, right? Because Nashville is overflowing with creativity and history. And it shines through at this sale! You’ve got vendors with all sorts of passions and talents.

What do I mean? Well, the market just announced Buck Run Creations from Lewisburg will be there. They’re “a manufacturer of the best built rustic and country furniture and home décor items money can buy . . . period!” They’ve been in the woodworking business for over 20 years, and the quality shows.

Kathy’s Metal will be there, with cowhide seat covers, purses, bags, and more—plus cowgirl hats and other accessories. She even makes men’s wallets. Grab a gift of one of these super-Nashville items. (Or treat yourself . . . I won’t tell!)

Blackjack Trading Post carries vintage furniture, jewelry, clothing, and more. It feels like a mix between an antique and thrift store, but you won’t have to wade through all the junk like you do at some of those places. It’s all good stuff.

There will be tons of handmade jewelry booths, face-care and makeup reps, boutique clothing stalls, southern home decor, art for all kinds of tastes—even plants and flowers. And you know the sweets will be well represented. Last month a booth had homemade pecan pie bars, gourmet caramel apples, cake pops, caramel truffles, hand-dipped chocolate covered strawberries, and more. Be ready to buy something to eat there, and plenty to take home.

So, the 4th weekend of every month (with the next two up being the weekend of March 24, 25, 26 and April 21, 22, 23), starting at 8 in the morning, get to the Nashville Flea Market and get yourself incredible antiques, collectables, treats, and one-of-a-kind artist-made treasures.

Have you been to the Nashville Flea Market (or any flea market) before? What did you think? What was your favorite booth?
