Pharmacy Burgers are the Wurst

The Pharmacy Burger Parlor & Beer Garden in Nashville

I know burgers are all over the place in Nashville. So why does the Pharmacy get a special shout out? Oh, lots of reasons.

This East Nashville joint says they're the "wurst burger joint" but that spelling is on purpose. Because they've got more than burgers: bratwursts (get it?), beer, legendary sodas, ice cream sodas, milkshakes, malts, and some of the best fries in Music City.

If you want to go classic, the Pharmacy Burger is a delicious combo of cheddar, iceberg lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, and yellow mustard. For a slightly more indulgent version, there's the Cheese Burger, piled high with yellow cheddar, Swiss, Muenster, tomato, and roasted garlic aioli.

For a real kick, try the White Oak BBQ Burger. It's made with house-made Coca-Cola BBQ sauce, smoked bbq onions, provolone, Gifford's bacon, crispy onion straws, and pickle. The Pharmacy also serves a daily special, the Salmon Burger. This dish features savory salmon, arugula, tomato, and tabasco aioli. It’s. So. Tasty.

And the fries. That kind of makes or breaks it for me at a burger place, and the Pharmacy's fries are so so so good. One of my favorites in town.

For a vegetarian option, the Falafel Burger is a great choice. It's made with a house-made vegetarian chickpea patty and topped with yogurt raita, goat cheese, tomato, and onion. The Black Bean Burger is also there for you, made with a house-made vegetarian black bean patty, guacamole, pico de Gallo, and chipotle avocado aioli.

Now it's time to talk about their wursts. Choose from the classic Bratwurst, Jagerwurst (pork wurst with coriander, garlic, mustard seed and a hint of ginger), Kielbasa (Polish pork wurst with garlic, marjoram and sugar), Currywurst (classic brat poached and simmered with pils beer, topped with a curried paprika and tomato sauce), or Knackwurst (pork and beef wurst packed with salt, paprika, black pepper, coriander, clove, and garlic).

If you're out with someone, my best suggestion is for one of you to get a wurst, one to get a burger, and then split the two! That way you each get a bit of both awesome sides of the Pharmacy trifecta.

But wait, a trifecta means three. Yeah, the third thing is a house-made soda, shake, or malt. For sodas they've got the Strawberry Ginger (strawberry and ginger syrups with phosphated soda), the Pharmacy Cream Soda (vanilla and lemon syrups, cream, and phosphated soda), and, my favorite, Creamsicle soda (orange soda, cream, and vanilla syrup). It tastes like those push-pops from our youth. And for dessert, treat yourself to a chocolate, vanilla, or strawberry milkshake or malt.

So, it's not just about burgers here (though the burgers are the bomb). The Pharmacy's got a ton to offer. Have you been here yet? What did you think? And I've asked before, but who makes the best burger in Nashville?
